Oswal attends Canadian Consul- General office opening

Prof. Sharmila Jain Oswal, Principal,
Balaji Law College, was invited as the guest for
the inaugural function of Canadian Consulate General
office, which was inaugurated by Canadian Prime
Minister Jean Chretien at Chandigarh recently.
Oswal was the only representative from the state
to have attended the function.
The function was also attended by Prime
Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee, Canadian minister for
Natural Resources Herb Dhaliwal along with many Indian
bureaucrats.
After the function, Oswal personally discussed the holding
of the third meeting of Indo-Canadian Legal Forum, involving
the Supreme Courts of two countries with Chretien. They
also discussed about providing high quality education
to African and Asian students in the two countries.

Cultivate reading habit: Chandrachud MH News Service
If one wants to become a good and successful
lawyer, he or she should develop good hobbies and read
a lot, advised former Chief Justice of the Supreme Court
Y.V. Chandrachud in Pune on Monday.
Formally inaugurating Balaji Law College in Yerawada
on Monday, he also asked law students to take their
work seriously and wholeheartedly and also read books,
written by eminent writers to enrich their knowledge.
Chandrachud also shared with the students interesting
events, incidents and the turning points in his life,
which made him what he is today.
Prof (Col.) A. Balasubramanian, President of Sri.
Balaji Society which runs the college, pledged that
he would take the institute to enviable heights. Earlier,
Prof. Sharmila Jain Oswal, Principal of the new Law
College welcomed the chief guest.

Law College students visit Yerawada
jail
The students of Balaji Law College had first hand information
about jail administration during the course of their
visit to Yerawada Central Prison.
Vijay Bendre, Jail Superintendent explained about various
aspects of all administration. He ably answered the
questions posed by students in regard to recreation
facilities, health and hygienic conditions of the prison
and legal aid facilities etc. He told students that
computer knowledge had been imparted to prisoners. There
are sixteen computers in the male ward and four in female
ward. The students were assisted by Prof. A. Balasubramanian,
President of Sri. Balaji Society, Prof. Sharmila Jain
Oswal, Principal of the college, Prof. Rohini Honap
and Prof. Swati Kapre.
