1. Pandit Jawaharlal
Nehru : On 10th May 1949, the then Prime Minister
Pandit Nehru in his speech had declared, “we took
a pledge to achieve Purna Swaraj”
This was an idealistic dream of our great leaders and
forefathers of our nation. The responsibility to achieve
this goal rests on the shoulders of the legal fraternity
which begins from the law students. It is on their delicate
shoulder this great burden lies.
2. Attorney Gen. Soli Sorabjee : I
wish to talk about the profession of which I am proud
and privileged to belong to - the profession of law.
There was a time when a lawyer was regarded as a family
friend. He commanded awe and respect. And for good reasons
prominent freedom fighters belonged to the legal fraternity
and played a leading part in the framing of our constitution.
Gandhiji, Pandit Nehru, Dr. Ambedkar, Alladi, Krishnaswami
Iyer, K.M. Munshi to mention just a few. Lawyers gave
up their practice to join the freedom movement and many
of them went to jail in the cause of the freedom struggle.
3. Justice C.S Dharmadhikari :- The
legal education makes the future lawyers an expert who
pleads for all like how a doctor prescribes for all,
or like how a priest preaches for all and like the economist
who plans for all. He means to say that legal education
may be termed as an art, which has the capacity to make
a lawyer the best pleader for the public at large.
4. A.T. Markose :- “Legal education
should aim at professional expertise in the process
of Law”. The main aim of legal education must
be to fill the gap between the academic and practical
knowledge.
